ABOUT Lauterbach & Associates, LLC
Lauterbach & Associates, LLC, LLC, (L&A) was founded in October 2004 with two main business purposes. The first was to provide scientific and regulatory affairs (S&RA) services to those in the tobacco industry and its suppliers. The second was to provide chemistry and toxicology consulting services to firms and organizations in the Middle Georgia area. L&A had its first client with two months of beginning operations. Additional clients were added in 2005 and 2006, including those in Canada and Europe. In addition to the S&RA services, L&A has provided services in the area of developing demonstration scripts for laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and converting scientific presentations into manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
Another aspect of L&A’s work has been the presentation of research papers at scientific meetings. During the past two years scientists from L&A have presented papers at the 2005 and 2006 Tobacco Science Research Conferences, the 2005 and 2006 Fall National Meetings of the American Chemical Society, and the April 2005 Reduced Risk Review open meeting held by the Life Sciences Research Organization. Copies of all those presentations can be found here.
In order to provide service to our clients, L&A participates actively in various technical and scientific organizations. It is a corporate member of CORESTA (Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco). L&A is also a corporate member of the US Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 126 on Tobacco and Tobacco Products. L&A and its management are active in the American Chemical Society’s Division of Small Chemical Businesses. Scientists at L&A hold certifications and other professional recognitions given by certifying authorities in the USA and Europe.
L&A works with other consulting firms to with expertise in processing natural products and high-speed packaging of consumer goods. For example, scientists at L&A have extensive expertise in carbohydrate chemistry including starch chemistry and the chemistries of natural products that contain carbohydrates (e.g., adhesives, baked goods, cereals, paper and paperboard, and tobacco). This expertise provides the scientific basis for processing engineering efforts for such processes as baking, drying, and expansion. On the packaging side, L&A has extensive experience in the chemistry of adhesives, inks, and coating, and other chemistries associated with packaging materials. In addition to helping specify components of such materials to ensure best performance, scientists at L&A have extensive experience identifying causes of packaging taint and “won’t run” materials. This scientific base allows engineers to make the best decisions in selecting packaging materials and operating conditions for the packaging equipment.
